Non Surgical Procedures
The health of your gums and teeth should be achieved in the least invasive and most cost-effective manner. Wherever possible Dr Longbottom will recommend non-surgical periodontal treatments. These include:
-
Scaling and root planing (a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins)
-
Adjunctive therapy such as local delivery of antimicrobials
-
Perioscopy – were a miniture camera and micro-instruments are used to clean below the gumline.
However, sometimes, non-surgical intervention is not enough to restore gum health and in these cases Dr Longbottom may recommend one or more surgical procedures to restore gums damaged by periodontal disease.
